Home blood testing for insurers, so members can complete the check at home

Aniva supplies the kits, the shipping, the accredited laboratory and the results interface, so your members give a sample at home and your team runs the programme rather than the logistics. Aniva is best for funds whose screening invitations go out but are rarely acted on quickly, because every sample has a status your programme can see.

Your programme

The kit arrives in your own envelope

Your members collect without booking an appointment.
Every sample has a status your programme can see.
Completion is counted rather than estimated afterwards.
What it is

What Aniva supplies and what your fund keeps

Diagnostics as a service means that one supplier provides the collection kits, the shipping, the accredited laboratory and the results interface, so that another company can run blood testing under its own name.

Your fund designs the programme and Aniva runs what happens to the sample, so the only part that changes is the posting, the collection and the laboratory work.

Kits are produced in your design and posted to the members you select.
Your member collects at home, or books a venous draw at a partner location.
Every sample is tracked, and a sample that cannot be measured is flagged rather than lost.
Results are structured values, so your programme can count completion rather than estimate it.
Processing is in Germany under the GDPR, and a data processing agreement is included.
What happens today

Members open the invitation and then wait before testing

The German evaluation of the bowel cancer screening programme measured how long members take to act after the letter arrives. Across Europe the picture is the same, because 42 percent of people in the target age group were screened for bowel cancer in the two years before 2022.

Almost everybody is invited

Between 2020 and 2023 an average of 89.5 percent of eligible insured people received an information letter from their fund, so the invitation is reaching almost everybody.

Very few act on the letter

Fewer than 7 percent of those invited were examined within the first three months, and the median gap between the invitation and the examination was 336 days.

The follow up is badly documented

A documented follow up colonoscopy could be linked to 12.9 percent of positive stool tests, and the evaluation calls that a lower bound because much of the real follow up was coded wrongly.

What changes

Your programme is measured on how many members finish

A member has finished when the sample is given and the result has reached your programme. The two cards below set out how that runs today and how it runs when the kit arrives at the member's home.

Today
Twenty two of every hundred insured people aged 35 and over used the general health check in 2021, which is the yearly rate rather than the share who never go.

How it runs

Every step from the envelope to the result

Running the programme has four steps, and your team runs none of the logistics in any of them.

You choose the member group

Your programme decides who is invited and what the panel contains, and Aniva produces the kit in your design.

The member collects at home

The kit arrives with instructions, and a member who needs a venous draw books one at a partner location instead.

An accredited laboratory analyses it

A partner laboratory accredited to ISO 15189 and working to RiliBÄK, the German quality guideline for medical laboratories, runs the panel, and a sample that fails is flagged for a redraw.

You see completion rather than guesses

Structured results and status events tell your programme who finished, who did not and where each sample stopped.

How it works

Prevention your members use, because the test reaches them

Each unit below stands for one insured person aged 35 and over, and twenty-two in every hundred used the general health check in 2021. Beside the grid are the prevention spend per insured person and the share of positive stool tests with a recorded follow-up colonoscopy.

Insured people aged 35 and over, in one year
22of 100

used the general health check in 2021

9.21€

spent per insured person on primary prevention in 2024

12.9%

of positive stool tests have a recorded follow-up colonoscopy, a lower bound

Used it that year
Did not use it that year
The numbers

What prevention costs your fund today, and who uses it

These are the published figures for prevention spending and for participation, and they are what a pilot would be compared against. Germany is not unusual, because across the EU 55.3 percent of people aged 15 and over had their cholesterol measured by a health professional in the year before the survey.

9.21€

per insured person was spent on primary prevention and health promotion in the 2024 reporting year

686m €

was the total for primary prevention and health promotion in that year

22%

of insured people aged 35 and over used the general health check in 2021, which is the yearly rate

10.1m

general health checks were billed in Germany in 2024, which is 11.3 percent more than in 2023

Who does what

Who is responsible for each part of the service

The contract names an owner for every step, and the list below is that split exactly as it is written.

Who does what

Owning the member relationship
Responsibility for the analysis
Chasing a sample that failed
Counting completion
Where the data is processed

Running it in house

You share the member with whoever runs the test
You contract each laboratory yourself
Usually nobody chases it, and you hear it from the member
Estimated afterwards from what came back
Wherever each supplier happens to host it

With Aniva

You keep the member, because the whole process is under your brand
The partner laboratory, under ISO 15189 and RiliBÄK
Aniva flags it and a redraw is arranged
Counted from a status on every sample
In Germany under the GDPR, with a data processing agreement
Still open

The questions prevention and care teams ask next

Teams at this point ask about branding, evidence of completion and where the data goes, and these are the answers.

Whose name is on the envelope

Yours, because the kit box, the instructions, the shipping carton and the result document are all produced in your design.

How do we know a sample was actually measured

Every sample has a status, and a sample that cannot be measured is flagged in your console so that a redraw is arranged rather than the member simply hearing nothing.

Where is the data processed

Processing is in Germany under the GDPR, and the analysis is run by a partner laboratory that is accredited to ISO 15189 and works to RiliBÄK.

Can you tell us which route funds this programme

No, because that is a decision for your own legal and contracting people, and Aniva describes only what it operates rather than what your fund may finance.

Can members who prefer a practice still take part

Yes, because a member can book a venous draw at a partner location instead of collecting at home.

How quickly can a pilot start

Four weeks from a signed contract to the first draw is normal for a defined group of members and a defined panel.
